How it works
When you select a PDF, the tool loads it in your browser with the open-source pdf-lib library and draws your watermark text onto every page. A centred or edge watermark places one line; the tiled option repeats the text in a grid so it covers the whole page. Colour, opacity, angle and size are applied as you set them, and the result is saved as a new PDF. Because all of the drawing happens locally, your document is never uploaded to a server or stored online, and the original file is left untouched.

Choosing a watermark that works
The right watermark depends on the job. To mark a document’s status — a contract still under review, a proof not yet approved — a single diagonal word like DRAFT at around 25% opacity is clear without making the page hard to read. To discourage someone from passing a document off as their own, a tiled watermark is far stronger: repeating your name or company across the page means there is no clean corner to crop out, and a faint tile overlapping the body text is harder to paint over than a stamp tucked in the margin. For a light brand touch, drop the opacity and the size, set the angle to zero, and place a small line at the bottom of each page.

Watermarking is something you usually do to a document precisely because it is sensitive — a draft you are circulating for comment, a design you are sharing before it is final, a report you want traceable if it leaks. Sending that file to an online watermarking service means uploading the very thing you are trying to protect to someone else’s server. Does the watermark go on every page?
Yes. The text you enter is stamped onto all pages in one pass. Choose a single centred line, a line at the top or bottom, or a tiled pattern that repeats across the whole page.
Can I make the watermark faint so the text stays readable?
Yes. The opacity slider controls how see-through the watermark is. A low opacity gives a subtle background stamp that does not obscure the underlying text.
Can I choose the colour and angle?
Yes. Pick any colour with the colour picker and set the rotation, from flat across the page to a diagonal 45-degree stamp, which is the classic look for words like DRAFT or CONFIDENTIAL.
Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?
No. The watermark is drawn into the PDF entirely in your browser with the open-source pdf-lib library. Your file never leaves your device and is never sent to a server.
Can the watermark be removed later?
A text watermark drawn into the page is part of the content, so it cannot be peeled off with a click. For a stronger deterrent, use a tiled, lower-opacity stamp that overlaps the text rather than sitting in the margins.
Does adding a watermark change the rest of the file?
No. Only the watermark text is added on top; the existing pages, fonts and images are left exactly as they were, so there is no loss of quality.
