How it works
When you choose a PDF, the first page is rendered in your browser with pdf.js so you can see exactly what you are trimming. Drawing a rectangle — or typing margins — defines the area you want to keep, measured as proportions of the page. When you click Crop, the open-source pdf-lib library sets a new CropBox on every page to that area. The CropBox only changes the visible region a viewer or printer shows; the underlying page content is left exactly as it was, which is why the result stays fully vector with selectable text and no drop in quality. Everything runs on your device, so the document is never uploaded.

Crop by eye or by the millimetre
Two ways of cropping suit two different jobs. Dragging a rectangle is fastest when you are working visually — chopping the wide white borders off a scanned page, cutting a slide down to its content, or framing a figure. Typing margins is the one to use when precision matters: trimming a uniform 10 mm off every edge for a reprint, or matching a print shop’s bleed spec. The two stay linked, so a common workflow is to rough out the box by hand and then round the numbers to something tidy. Because the crop is stored as proportions of the page rather than absolute points, applying it to every page gives a consistent margin even on documents whose pages vary a little in size.
Why crop in your browser
The pages people crop are often sensitive — a contract scanned with the edges of a desk in shot, a statement you want to tidy before sharing, a design proof. Sending that to an online cropping service means uploading the whole document, hidden margins and all, to someone else’s server. This tool keeps the file on your device from start to finish: it is rendered, cropped and saved locally, with no upload, no account and no watermark added to the output. Once the page has loaded it works offline too. One honest caveat — because cropping changes only the visible box and not the content, the trimmed area still lives inside the file, so treat this as a presentation trim rather than redaction.

Does cropping turn my PDF into an image?
No. Cropping sets each page’s CropBox, which simply tells viewers and printers a smaller visible area. The page content is untouched, so text stays fully selectable and searchable and there is no loss of quality — nothing is rasterized.
Can I crop every page the same way?
Yes, and that is the default. The rectangle you draw on page one is stored as proportions of the page, then applied to every page, so a consistent margin trim works even when pages differ slightly in size.
Can I enter exact margins instead of dragging?
Yes. Type the top, right, bottom and left margins in millimetres and the crop rectangle updates to match. Dragging and typing stay in sync, so you can rough it out by eye and then fine-tune the numbers.
Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?
No. The page is rendered with pdf.js and cropped with the open-source pdf-lib library entirely in your browser. Your file never leaves your device and is never sent to a server.
Can the cropped-away area be recovered?
Because cropping only changes the visible box rather than deleting content, the trimmed region still exists in the file and a determined viewer could widen the box again. If you need the hidden area gone for good, this trim is about presentation, not redaction.
